The women's business magazine I write for is now on KILTR >> The3rdiMagazine >> Please come and connect with us!
Ever wondered why people self-disclose on social media? Great paper by Harvard University showing that we get pleasure from it - like when eating or having sex. I wrote a blog about it yesterday - heres the blog and there is a link to the research paper in there too.
Nice post from the Guardian about digital literacy in higher education today...
New initiative by Strathclyde University - A faculty wide photography competition depicting life at Strathclyde... Check it out here...
Sorry - I've got the right link now!
Done and dusted Jillian. I must've missed this first time.
Thanks kindly!
I don't often post content from my own blog on KILTR but as this is a guest post... I'm running a new initative to showcase more academic based social media research (there are more researchers than me out there!) Please welcome Siobhan McGinty and her research on 'Brand Innovation Through Social Networks'. Siobhan is also a group member, do stop by her profile and say hello!
Thanks Jillian! I will look forward to hearing from more guest bloggers! :)
You're very welcome! Thanks for sharing your journey! Interesting mix of guest bloggers. I'm loving reading about all their work...
I'm glad I have not sent my PhD to the printers yet... New stats just in... 86% of overseas tourism purchases and 91% of tourism domestic tourism purchases are digitally influenced! Quick update then away we go...
Come on KILTR... I need a few more responses to our functionality survey - you could even win one of our new t'shirts!
Sorry - I've got the right link now!
Done and dusted Jillian. I must've missed this first time.
Thanks kindly!
I think, as Teddy says, "Students don't have offices. They are nomads. They've got their dorm or a room at home, but if they're going to study and work, the library is the physical space where they come to do that."
Libraries have to change, have to reflect the changing society but they also have to remain the same - books are artifacts, artifacts with content that can also be expressed in digital format for ease-of-use, cost & distribution but should also be available in … a tangible format to express the intangibles - like touch, smell, ownership, etc - that make life more interesting. Now, in a 'book' recession, is the time to acquire collections and move them to 'libraries' where they can be secure, cared for, digitised & made accessible to the public.More
Why have I just found this now?! If anyone is writing any kind of lengthy document it might be an idea to try this out...
Thanks for posting this. I remember when it first came out (version 1) and I was wary of wasting my time, but this version sounds very good.
I know I sometimes complain about living in the middle of nowhere but I have to say I enjoy all the little events that go on. Last week was a festival at Comlongon Castle and this week its the Moniaive folk festival... Its always a good laugh - If your around the Dumfries way then it will be worth checking out!
Jillian Ney. Your and You're... schoolboy error! Sorry folks...
Never knew this was running... If anyone is around Dumfries and Galloway this week you might want to check some of this out - D&G Science Festival
Without looking... What makes a good Tweet?! New article from this months Harvard Business Review...
I love the fact that is say 25% of Tweets are not worth reading! Although I thought it would be a bit higher than that!
Storing journal articles again... You might find it interesting though. 'A Study of Self-Presentation in Light of Facebook'
Thanks for this very interesting inclusion of a most interesting subject. What I find of most interest in reading it so far is that it was written in 2007, which now seems so long ago, when it comes to Facebook.
It was probably written a little before that, you know what its like trying to publish academic papers - it takes ages! It does seem like a long time ago now but the topic is on track for that time. Its funny reading the literature in this area and the themes that come through!
Just found this in my thesis...
'Lurking and insider [posting] behaviours were examined and the study found that lurking behaviours contributed to brand loyalty more than posting did' (Shang, Chen and Liao, 2006).
…
So the people who don't engage seem to be more brand loyal than those who do?!
What is everyone's thoughts on this? I found it quite interesting, clearly I've read the paper but I can't remember it... off to refresh my memory.More
What a horrible Friday... Got my work back from the proofreader and I've 381 pages of small grammar edits to make... I. Want. To. Die. Anyone got a funny story to cheer me up?!
What phase of your thesis/dissertation are you in? I'm afraid this is normal. :-( This is stage one of rewrite/editing, the part where you want to tear all your hair out. Persevere. It will get better. I was rewriting/editing up until the final moments of the final deadline; it was expected. And my diss is in English rhetoric and composition, so they were BEYOND finicky, but so have been all my print clients!! You'll make it. :-))
Thanks guys. It gets sent to the printer on Monday. It's over (well depending on defence) after this. Just stupid grammar mistakes - how many commas have I missed?! So annoying. It's almost over thought :)
Realistically, look at it this way: it is very hard/impossible to see the details of the trees for the forest you've been growing. This is why one gets an editor for one's thesis. :-)
You feel slightly stupid when you see all the silly mistakes! I'm glad they have been caught.
I've been developing a guest lecture for Strathclyde University about Millennials... I've been trying to find some engaging content and came across this quiz..
My millennial score is 84... What's yours?
uh-oh. It's a 37 for me! As it should be though according to the graph at the end.
96 for me.
On your heels at 92 Michael...
I got 69!
96 Michael?! Oooft, get you.. Bjorn you're not too far behind! I thought I was doing well with 84. Scott, I'm surprised. Right who's beating Michael?!
I'm 80...betraying my Gen X cohort....The mobile phone and telephone line question is a bit of a wrong'un. To be millennial you probably have ye broadband but to have that you usually need a fixed line too.
a 95 for me... it's more likely to have mobile broadband than a fixed line a lot of the time.
Great stuff - anyone else?
85!
Thanks for this, Jillian. My team is in the process of pulling together a workshop on Millenials in the workplace as well and I have included a link to the intro video below. I will be happy to share more as we continue to develop this offering. Cheers!
Thanks Bryan! I'll get my lecture up too but it's likely to be a long one at 3.5 hours... Thanks for sharing!
97 (must be the piercing!) :)
My students done this yesterday - was amazed at some of the low scores! Was going to post a blog about it later... Need to find some time first!
Made it out of the Baby Boomers & past the Gen Xers but dropped out shortly after! Damn! 41/100...
I was surprised with 74/100, I must do alot more than I thought! ;O)
