Ok, so who would be interested in getting a Kiltr Artists' ExhibitIon up and running? Any input welcome, what do people think?
I reckon it could be a great platform to promote Scottish artists, Kiltr, Kiltr's partners and Scotland's creative talents....Your input folks, please!
I think that sounds fantastic!
Inspirational idea Julie. Happy to collaborate.
Good stuff....official Kiltr people: what do you think?
It's a good idea. Needs a number to give it traction so details can be sorted. I'm happy to help if needed.
Stephen
Brilliant you have my support.
Let me discuss this with the team on Monday, Julie. In principle, though, I think it sounds like a great idea!
Excellent idea. Is your idea to host the exhibition both on the Kiltr site and in a traditional venue? I have noticed some material posted rather haphazardly using YouTube and other modes on this site, so the technology seems to be there to collate some kinds of creative artefacts here.
Will be nice to find a place.....what about ask to the fashion expert Adam Waite, his just open a beautiful showroom in the old whisky bond on Washington Street....
Loving the enthusiasm! Was just a wee idea, hardly formed, floating around my head and I thought I would put it out there and see what sort of response it got. Glad to see others can see potential.
Early days; all suggestions welcome. I hadn't thought much down logistical lines as yet...
Still think that fashion and art are matching well together.
Right... I need to get thinking on this one - been stupidly hectic this week, but planning on submitting a wee proposal to the Kiltr bosses shortly.
If you need any art work, i'm there. sounds like a good idea.
Great idea I'm in :-)
Thanks for the input, folks. A brain-storming meeting is in the offing with Kiltr peoples, so watch this space :)
Hi Julie,
I'm up for it
In an' all...
Great idea. The Lighthouse are looking for idea around exhibitions at the moment I believe having recently appointed a new curator. Could be a good venue. Happy to get in touch with them; or could open that up to the community?
Delighted at the positive response from everyone. I believe we can make a success of this. Spoken with Bjorn at Kiltr today, and it's agreed we probably need to find a suitable venue first. So Andy, your suggestion of The Lighthouse is well-timed! I'm going to sumbit an open proposal on Kiltr within the next few days, outlining the exhibition idea more concretely. This should help us to generate interest from potential venues/ sponsors/etc. watch this space!
Great, keep us all posted!
Fantastic idea! Any initiative supporting Scotland's creative communities and individuals is worth supporting. Count me in.
Yeah, good things in the pipeline, it won't happen over night but I think we can put together something really cool.
Right-o. Sorry for the delay. I've set up an invite-by request group in order to get this idea off the ground and provide a space to discuss logistics, etc.

From The Telegraph:
"The public purse is helping to pay a woman artist more than £160 an hour to stand completely still beside a Scottish loch..."
This is obviously a fairly biased report on this story but, in the age of austerirty, and … with certain portions of the press now looking for targets other than bankers, can funding awards from the public purse such as this one be defended? More
The maths of this are typically bent and its perhaps just Salmond fishing by the Telegraph.
For £10,000 she will produce a film that takes one year to produce, ok not full time. She will spend longer editing and polishing her footage of 20m/day than the £160/hour headline suggests. The real question is should such works be funded by Government ?
…
I'd argue any Government can do this if it has a clear strategy and purpose. Since Tourism is so essential to our economy, such works could be used in Marketing efforts, its homegrown, authentic and (hopefully) have brilliant effect. In this context it would be good value for money.
For balance, read the CS economic scoping study.More
John, you have expressed my opinion on this much more eloquently than I could have done. I am left with nothing left to add except, " ditto the above ".
Here's an interesting opinion piece by Duncan Macmillan from last Thursday's Scotsman...
Hmm..the link's not working for me. Anyone else, or is it just my iPad being awkward?
The BBC reports that "artists are being invited to bid for a contract to provide works of art along the coast near John O'Groats. Called Path, the scheme has a budget of £15,000 and is part of wider efforts being led by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to revamp the town. The aim of the project is to install permanent artwork on, or around, nearby coastal paths."
…
The budget sounds miniscule for what they want to achieve but it's an interesting project all the same...More
From the BBC:
An illustrator for comics based on Star Wars spin-off Clone Wars has designed the poster for the Highlands' only comic book convention, Hi-Ex.
Edinburgh-born artist Tanya Roberts has worked on Clone Wars stories for Dark Horse, the … third largest comic publisher in the US. She has also illustrated Toy Story and Strawberry Shortcake stories.
Organisers of next year's event sought permission from the owners of the characters which feature in the poster. It shows comic book characters Judge Dredd, Tank Girl and Dennis and Gnasher riding on the back of the Loch Ness Monster...More
Boyce, 44, is the third successive Turner winner either brought up or educated in Glasgow, following Susan Philipsz last year and Richard Wright in 2009, and he confirms the city's now indelible importance to Britain's art world.
From The Herald:
A mural inspired by Robert Burns's poem Tam o' Shanter has been unveiled at the bard's birthplace museum. The 17-metre long (56ft) piece tells the tale of one of Burns's longest poems, about a man who stays too long at a public house and witnesses a disturbing vision … of witches and warlocks at a haunted kirk while he is riding home on his horse Meg.
Edinburgh-based artist Chris Rutterford created the exhibition at the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway, Ayrshire, in the style of a graphic novel and used real people for inspiration. It is made up of a series of 7ft boards depicting more than 60 life-sized characters, including Tam and Meg.More
Hi, I'm looking for venues to host a seminar next year for Guy Gowan. Can anyone recommend anywhere? Needs to be funky and be able to host a good number of photographers.
Guy teaches Photoshop processing and Workflow in a laid back manner, dry and straight from the shoulder. He's more surfer than nerd if you get my drift.
He explains how you automate your workflow, processing images and improving them at the same time (NOT by wanging curves and bars in photoshop, but explains the ratioale behind … it). He also has downloads to help. Soooooooo can anyone recommend anywhere???
Needs to be able to show AV and projection, but be funky. Ideally the venue will be able to help market it through their own PR... hmmm. challenge.. any ideas???
(brick walls, music feel, urban, raw, surfing vibe)
He's in Leeds this thursday 6th Oct if you want to see him in action, say I sent ya (I know Leeds!!! hence wanting to get him north of the border!!!!!)

What about Street Level on King Street, Vanessa? I've been to a couple of exhibitions there.
Thanks chaps. I'll have a look. Depending on the space, it could either be a two venue gig (so two smaller venues, one in Glasgow, one in Edinburgh say) holding anywhere between 10 - 20 people) or a larger one for 100. I'm honing it according to the venue. He can fill either. TO give you an idea, he's doing one in this really amazing location in Australia in a few weeks time: http://rki.lt/qfQGyG
People come to see and experience the venue as well as see him. (thanks, I really appreciate your help!)
The RGI Kelly Gallery in Glasgow is now accepting proposals for their 2012 exhibitions programme. Deadline Friday 30th September 2011. More info on the link attached.
