I'll always love my Technics SL-1210 MK2 turntables. True icons of an analog age.
Nah, given that this is Kiltr, we ought to knock this Japanese icon out of the list an instead include the finest bouncy belt-drive turntable ever to come out of Glasgow: the truly iconic, always engaging and much coveted Linn LP12 :)
I've owned a couple over the years and whilst better turntables exist (at a price) there are few which represent as good all-round performance as the venerable Sondek. It … arguably kick-started the 'source first' philosophy and even today shows a clean set of heels to all but the very best digital sources. What's more, a used one can be had for as little as £3-400 (though new they're well pricy - £3000+ for a full-monty, excluding arm and cartridge)... boootiful!!!More
Both icons in their own right, certainly the LP12 has lasted as a venerable choice for audiophiles all over the globe, especially as it's so darn upgradable!! I've had a couple of these over the years as well. (Still got an Ittok arm somewhere, and a set of Isobarik's in the loft!)
Whilst the SL1200 Mk2 is certainly a ledgend in its own right within the DJ community and … has had it's fair share of media coverage! More
If it don't play 78s I aint interested... *Joke*
A 1210 probably can if you pitch it right up on the newer versions!! :-) this version does +-16 so 61RPM will that do?
That'll do nicely... This group is making me really wish I had some proper spare dough... Need to start a group called, KILTR Get Rick Quick Schemes...
Fascinating glimpse of Scotland in the 30s, 40s and 50s as British Council put film archive online
All six Scottish films are posted on Vimeo. Here's one from 1943 on Edinburgh's Royal Mile
Fantastic! We've got six Swedes on work placement in Glasgow and Paisley for a couple of weeks and are planning to take them to Edinburgh on Monday, so it would be fun to show them this first. Thanks!
Love this guy's "pure spun - all vinyl" mixes
Nice response to the "20 Things you Should Know About KILTR" post on the Drum ...
Was learning this wee poem with my daughter last night for school ...
Twa Leggit Mice by J.K. Annand
Ma mither says that we hae mice
That open air-ticht tins
…
And eat her chocolate biscuits
And cakes and sic like things.
Nae doot it is an awfy shame
That mice should get the blame.
It’s really me that ripes the tins
When left alane at hame.
But jings I get fair hungert
And biscuits taste sae nice
But dinnae tell ma mither
For she thinks it’s the mice!More
Awesome. I went to university later in life and had to do an Access course to get there. I remember studying with fondness Scottish poetry.
The detail, inflection and study on life where wonderful.
Thanks for sharing
What a great wee poem, full of rhythm with a cheeky wee bit of humour thown in, love it and good to know the weans are still being taught fun ones like this. Thanks Stewart!
Pleasure! Lots more from the Edinburgh born author can be found here ...
A bit steep at £92 new, though, is it not?
Jeff Atwood on leaving Stack Exchange ...
Wee christmas song to get you in the mood ...
Surprisingly the Glasgow Corporation Tramways were one of the largest urban tramway systems in Europe before they were finally shut down in 1962. Anyone know why Glasgow got rid of them? They were fast, reliable and non-polluting unlike the diesel-powered buses that replaced them. Seems crazy!
Was this not on here a while ago? All good though!
I agree, its an insult to the chaps that built this that we have failed so miserably on the Edinburgh trams project which is tiny compared to this system.
Quite nostalgic to watch. For me, the first part showing the number 30 tram coming from Blairdardie along Great Western Road and going past Anniesland Cross, Byres Road, Kelvin Bridge, Georges Cross, etc. was amazing. Schoolboy memories.
This one doesn't mention the weekend, but it just FEELS like a Friday night...
A day too early.....
Ahem, courtesy of a KILTR connection today by e-mail with the message "rock on!" LOL
Try sitting still when that's on - nope can't be done !!!!
Super-cool!
Next step. A flying cat.
Maybe a Glasgow Tram Service? If only Edin had seen that before they started all that digging!
If this technology can be adapted to get me from my bed to the shower in the mornings, I think they're on to a winner!
Looks like those neutrinos might not have been travelling faster than the speed of light after all
Gaun yersel Einstein!
Duh who could have guessed?
Two trains pass each other in opposite directions close to the speed of light. You are standing looking out of the window on train A and i am looking back at you on train B. Question - who hears the latest Scotrail excuse first?
Aha - it's a trick question, Stevie: Scotrail trains would never go that fast! It must be some other train operator - probably in another country.
Some staggering stats coming out of Google...almost $10 billion in revenue for quarter, and 550,000 Android devices being activated daily!
Some great photo coverage from last Friday in the KILTR Hub by Andrew McKenna
Haaaa!! Anyone fancy having a code snippet tattooed on their arm??
Aye - i heard that people with <H1> tags are just making up for something else.
I'm off to get an animated gif done. Back in 20.
I got flash embedded into my shin. You will have to take my word for it as I can't use my iphone to show you.
Just as you thought everything was dandy, my thumb is not compatible with the new thumb drive, no backward compatability..
Obviously you had the unit tests written on your other arm first ;-)
Wouldn't it be great if all a facelift required was applying a new stylesheet? :)
