PERTH COUNCIL DECIDES TO OBLITERATE ONE OF ITS MOST ICONIC BUILDINGS !

http://rki.lt/19krDtt

This is a B listed building designed by H E Clifford and Lunan (Glasgow) in 1909-14 in the Renaissance style. A fine building used as a concert hall. So much for the law aimed at protecting listed buildings; respect for our built heritage; recognition of the value of our built heritage and council obligations to implement the Scottish Government policy on built heritage. It appears that demolition would be an illegal act. Surely short sighted local politics can't override that.

The threat seemed have been previously averted, with much public pressure. But now the threat has returned.

Yes it has remained unoccupied for some time. And yes it may be not viable at the moment to use it as suggested. But we are still within a recession and in time new options can be considered. Why destroy our heritage.

What a shame.

Gut and rebuild from the inside - maybe OK.

Demolish - definitely not.
