As i write this this internationally famous Charles Rennie Mackintosh building is till burning. It is a sad day. While I am confident that it will be restored, I am not sure it will be done properly considering how the immediate area was treated with the new building opposite devoid of sympathetic design. The fire appears to have started in the lower ground floor on the west side, perhaps the old lecture theatre, and crept vertically through to the roof and out the back facing over towards Sauchiehall Street. Hopefully the fire has not reached the central stair or the east side and damage is limited to that of smoke and water. My photos include the old lecture theatre, the central gallery, the east side stair (with its internal window from an earlier extension) and some rooms to the east side as well as some of the north west corner affected.

Thank you for these photographs. Having studied at GSA, the Mac building is like a best friend. It is heart breaking to know the library is gone, but great thanks must go to the Scottish Fire Service for saving the museum, archives and remainder of the building... Their expertise has mended many a broken heart.
