Ian Curtis on Fast Product

Post Image

Great to see this bit of audio get a new lease of life as it was something that we inserted into the film at quite a late stage. In fact it was our fantastic audio engineer - Paul Hartmann - who flagged it up to us.

Little does anyone know but in fact Joy Division did stick an indelible print on Scottish culture with contributions to one of the Earcom compilation LPs that Fast issued 3 of. Our favourite group from those compilations is the fantastic Deutsche Amerikanische Freundschaft - give a listen to their amazing track Ich Und Die Wirklichkeit.

Sadly Fast Product didn't pick up Joy Division for a proper release, as Hilary Morrison - one half of the Fast Product team - wasn't comfortable with Ian Curtis' choice of band name. Understandably. Joy Division was the name the Nazis gave to the group of women who were shockingly used as prostitutes during world war 2.

Listen back to Curtis below, talking about how his relationship with Fast Product came about.

Never knew Fast Product worked with DAF - respect! Guess they'd might have been uneasy about putting this out - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZZVD__ZhB0

Ha ha! Aye they were on one of the early comps - in fact it was over a booze Shandy DJ night in @broadcast years ago that first made me to do a bit of digging about them.

@Erik Amazing band - saw them a few years ago at Melt! Gabi can still command a stage, but I think they've finally called it a day.

Japanese Forms

@brian-beadie @Erik Ah! D.A.F.
Once my favourite band (for about a week probably).
Still have my vinyl and badges (picture of which i posted on Twitter today for @sound-of-young-scotland)
Saw the play when they were at the height of their notoriety -'79 or '80. Not sure.

BTW: I have that Earcom2 EP. Still in mint condition.
